The CDC is recommending everyone wears a cloth face covering when entering public spaces where it is hard to social distance. You can easily make a face covering from items lying around your house, no sewing necessary!
- Cloth bandanna or t-shirt
- Scissors (If you need to cut down the cloth)
- Two rubber bands or hair ties
Step 1: Ensure there is enough fabric to create a double layer over your face. If the cloth is too large you can cut it down to the appropriate size
Step 2: Fold the cloth to the middle from the top and then to the middle from the bottom.
Step 3: Fold the top of the cloth down again to the middle and then fold the bottom of the cloth up to the middle.
Step 4: Place rubber bands or hair ties on each side of the cloth, about 6-inches apart
Step 5: Fold both sides to the middle around the rubber bands
Step 6: You’re done! You now have a cloth face covering to use!
Why should you wear a face covering in public? Studies have shown that wearing a cloth mask can significantly reduce the spreading of respiratory viruses. Remember, the cloth covering is not a substitute for social distancing measures so stay vigilant to maintain a 6-foot distance from other people and try to stay at home as much as possible to stop the spread of coronavirus.
