Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has announced a testing blitz initiative to increase the number of Arizonans who have been tested for COVID-19.
The goal of the testing blitz is to complete 10,000 to 20,000 COVID-19 tests every Saturday for three consecutive weeks beginning May 2. The increase in testing will allow Arizona state health officials to obtain a better scope of current infection rates of SARS-CoV-2 to begin crafting plans to life stay-at-home orders. Further testing also prevents asymptomatic COVID-19 cases from spreading further by informing members of the public if they currently have the virus or not.
Arizonans will now be able to get tested at a variety of drive-through testing facilities throughout the state without a doctor’s order. This is in addition to the new wider testing guidelines ADHS announced to allow medical providers and testing facilities to test more people in the state.
